Overview

Mortal Kombat 1's ultrawide support is real but narrow in scope: NetherRealm built it around specific exact aspect ratios, so true 32:9 at 5120x1440 fills the screen properly with cutscenes and menus following along, and exact 21:9 at 2560x1080 works natively too. The catch is 3440x1440, by far the most common '21:9' resolution (actually closer to 21.5:9), gets thin black bars for some users since it doesn't exactly match the hard-coded ratio expected. No dedicated mod or config fix exists for this gap.

Fixes

No known fix yet.

No fix exists for the black bars at the common 3440x1440 resolution — the game only recognizes a few exact aspect ratios as fully supported, and no mod or config edit changes this.

Full 32:9 fill with no black bars during fights, menus, or story cutscenes — no settings changes needed.

Not working
Thin black bars on both sides at native res; game doesn't seem to recognize this as a fully supported ultrawide ratio the way it does 5120x1440.

Patch history & verification

current buildSep 18, 2026
Verified via multiple Steam Community threads and gameplay footage — native 32:9 (5120x1440) and exact 21:9 (2560x1080) work cleanly; common 3440x1440 resolution reports thin black bars for some users.
